Tech & Teaching

Teaching with technology is so important. The world around us is constantly evolving with increasing technology use and capabilities. Not teaching our youth about technology and how to use it safely and effectively is doing them a disservice. Content is not the only thing we are responsible for, skills are. We teach kids how to critically think, analyze sources, come up with arguments, find evidence etc. On top of that we have to teach them how to safely interact with the world and others on the internet as they evolve into digital citizens. It is our civic duty if you will. I am not suggesting we drop all content to teach technology skills, but to reference a great tech education influencer Liz Kolb, "Learning First, Technology Second." Learning can be enhanced with technology by enhancing the experience and extending it beyond the classroom. Technology can also make our lives simpler by cutting time, consolidating data and providing us with a cornucopia of useful tools and sites. One of the handiest tools in my toolbelt is technology. This proficiency and knowledge are skills I hope to prepare my students with  as they go out into the world. I integrate technology in my pedagogy to help build skills that will help kids in and outside of my classroom.
